Dealer says NO to remote start?

During my pre-purchase X5 4.4L inspections, I inquired about a remote start. I have a basic starter on my Maxima. The dealer said he would NOT recommend one due to potential signal interference w/ coils. Has anyone heard of this? Any recommendations as to a "basic" remote starter for this MN driver.

I install remote starters, Compustar brand. BMW's are more difficult to install than most cars and require you to give up a key because no bypass is available....but no harm will be done if it is installed properly. Just a regular radio signal, so I can't believe there is any truth in what they told you.

there are quite a few threads here on the site that have discussed this topic over the years. Bottom line is many don't recommend that you do it, but it can be done. Here's one such thread

I Just purchased a 2005 x5 4.4, and it came with a remote start (which explains why I only got 1 key and 2 remote start units) I've had no problems at all. Livin in NY, it is worth its wait in gold...especially on those cold, cold winter days!!

Mines working fine after 5 years...used the plastic spare key for the proximity box.
