Auto close the sunroof when the car is locked

i have searched many threads on this forum relating to auto close of the sunroof and they always get hijacked with the "We don't get auto close in the US" but so far cannot find an answer to whether anyone has been able to make the sunroof close when the car is locked....

I was thinking a very basic additional striker switch piggybacked into the sunroof switch so that when the car is locked it electrically presses the sunroof switch for you. It Would achieve the outcome, only issue is that power is removed from the internal switch so will most likely have to tap into the control box.............

Has anyone tried it or seen it done?

I've read on numerous other bmw forum posts that it can be done with custom coding. So if you can get your hands on a gt1 that has about every option possible in there.

yep, most of the coders do that, you can find them on fleabay and read about them in the "hidden features" topic (read back from end) or the BMW Guru topic:

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ng-lights.html

auto-close is a relative term, of course.. you must hold the remote-button in to accomplish what you want to do, no one-click and walk away that I have found (would be ecstatic to hear differently).

good luck!

As others have said, it's a function of car/key memory and can easily be programmed. No need to wire anything, just set which keys on which the feature should be activated. Any independent BMW shop worth its salt will have an autologic or BMW DIS that can program this.

Some vehicles with rain sensor can have SHD function for closing the sunroof when it rains, it can be with a custom i-bus module to when the alarm is armed, it would send a signal to the sunroof module to close the sunroof.

in addition to the i-bus coding you would need to keep the sunroof module alive with KLR and to close the sunroof and when it has finished to release KLR and to rearm the interior motion sensor.

easy for me as stated just hold the centre button on the key and it cycles through closing all windows and then the sunroof.

same when walking up to the car to unlock it, just press and hold the door open button and all the windows open and then the sunroof opens............. neat

Thanks for the replies. I have the hold the centre button on the remote I'm interested in trying to make it so that when I lock the car with a single press it closes itself without me having to hold the button. My 99 Volkswagen did that and it was very handy as you all know that it takes a full 23 seconds of holding to get a fully open pano sunroof closed and who has that sort of time in this fast paced world :p

Bulk your best answer for this thread was killcraps. (he's an actual tech) I would get with him as to how you go about doing what he said. Personaly I dont know what SHD and KLR is but I will be looking it up. Custom i bus module we might be able to find to.

Agreed I planned on researching those things as well before I pester killcraps, he did scare me with all that jargon I have to admit however I'm still as dumbfounded as when I read it.

Killcraps I am interested in your idea, could you explain your TLA's and what's involved in creating and ibus.....

Cheers
Andrew
