Window Tinting
Just recently picked up a 2004 4.4. Black with Truffle interor. I am looking to get my windows tinted all around. Problem is the one I picked up has privacy on the rear (35% from what I have been reading in the fourms). I was wondering if you guys could share some pics with tint over privacy glass and thoughts on what % i should get to have the most even look possible all around the car. Also, speaking in percentages I was wondering if the stock privacy glass is 35% and i were to put 50% over that would it essentially be 17.5% tint on the rears? Then I could tint the fronts 20% to be a close match?? Any insight on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. |

be nice not having to see the terminal t-bone coming at you at least..
can't see any meaningful detail at night from the rear 3/4, with the shabby 35% factory tint, me.

I tinted the front two windows to 35% to match the privacy glass and here's my $0.02. The windows match well but not perfectly - average person couldn't tell the difference but a car guru definitely could. Also there have been many times in daylight that I wish I had gone darker, but more times at night that I'm glad I didn't! I had 20% on my other vehicles but I guess with age my night vision has deteriorated.

I have 5% all the way around and 20% covering the whole front. I live AL and have been lucky with the law. Very dark, can't back up at night without window down but the privacy and look are amazing. My opinion would be stay with one percentage all the way. 20% at least and you will have to look hard to see the difference. The windshield is your call. Full daylight for me and you cant see in. Different however risky with tickets. Good luck.

Wow, LSB X5. I haven't seen that before. It's definitely an eye catcher.
My thoughts of tint are that doing anything so dark it affects safety of yourself or others is not smart but to each his own. I have a theory that if there were ever a civil lawsuit after a collision, having windows tinted very dark is not going to go well.

thanks guys for your input.
So tinting over the privacy glass. Does this work as just like tinting a normal window just starting with only 35% coming through. So in order to get to around 20% i should go with 50% over the privacy and 20% on the fronts? Thanks Again D |

Quote:
50% on the rear gets you to 17.5% and i was going to do 15% on the front two windows, hope i did my math right and it matches! |
