nothing there related to my case. My case is : when I use method 1 I can program key2 but looks as this is disabling key 1. when I reprogram key 1, key2 is found disabled as if one only key can be working at a time . Either key1 or key2. Before coding preferences.both keys were working as remote keys. It looks like it is something related to the coding process. Mechanic asked me about the second key, but then said, never mind ,both keys will work alike

You MUST program BOTH keys during the same session. Any remote key not programmed during the same session, will no longer be able to lock/unlock & arm/disarm the car's alarm. It will still be able to START the car...but the FZV/DWA (keyless entry/anti-theft alarm system) will be disabled for the key not present. This is one deterrent for "remote" access when a key is lost or stolen...if you reprogram your remaining remote key(s)...the lost/stolen key will no longer have "remote" capability...and if you can also "bar" the lost/stolen key from starting the car if you go to your BMW dealer (or have the aftermarket software/hardware like INPA etc.)
The remote keys contain 3 features:

Oh thank you Qsilver7, that was a documented and satisfactory reply and clear any confusion. Still one point regarding step 7. Which key to use to complete initialization, key1 or key2? many thanks

![]() So, it doesn't matter which key you insert for Step 7...due to the same reason that if you insert any of the keys into the ignition (after initial insertion of the first key)...any key inserted prior...will no longer have remote capability. Hope that explanation makes sense. ![]()
