2000 X5 4.4i Engine refurbish

Hey guys how are you?

Im here for service till 2013 and bought an X5 year 2000. now i have enough time to do a complete overhauling with Faceliftupgrade. Therefor i also want to refurbish the engine, integrate the Air suspension 2 instead of the first series what is already in there, repaint it and and and... know you think for sure why is that nut doing that? so.... the first is i want to learn more about my car because i want to repair it by myself. and when i go back to germany... trust me its expensive going to the Bmw service. i know that cause i owned about 9 bmw there. the next thing is, buying a facelift model with low milage and everything i want in it its more expensive than rebuild my one and honestly you also will not know whats wrong with that one until you drive it for a while. so now comes the part where i need your help.

Im looking for someone who can refurbish bmw engines or a good place to find refurbished ones. I had a look in the internet for many hours know and you'll find them sure. the prices are from 2900 till 4000 but i couldn't read out if they are refurbished or not. I won't pay money for an engine with 180k miles when its not refurbished also to put one in with 70k miles without renewing when the engine is almost out makes no sense i think.

the other thing is, is it a very expensive or big deal to put the big air suspension in there instead of the already installed smaller version?

Thanks for your time, hope that thread will give good ideas and great discussions about. when i got all the informations i need and start with everything maybe in may i also would like to present a photo story about it

Those prices you find are not for rebuilt. If you want to add a serious upgrade to your truck I am selling my motor, trans, and transfer case out of my 2005 4.8is.

Sounds good whats the milage on that one what about the price? i also need to know what i need to change at something like dme for example

if its not a big deal to get it running in my x5 it might be an option but i know about the problems with wiring and DME synchronization from EWS it could run but its not a promise best for me would be to get my one refurbished. i have a machine shop in town with a tough guy but to get that job done, i would need a data sheet from the engine with all angles and everything... but did not found one yet

other alternative would be buy an refurbished one or exchange with my one and pay the difference

It would be a direct bolt in, but you would have to get wiring, ECU, and engine sensors and accessories, as I am keeping them. Your engine harness might be able to work with some repinning. Your sensors and accessories will also work. It runs and drives like new and has 111k on it. Youd get the motor, 6speed automatic trans, and xdrive transfer case for $7500. Just a bare rebuilt 4.8is motor fetches $15k-19k alone without the trans and case.

no thanks, not with that milage i mean, i don't remove an engine with more than 100.000 miles to put another one with also more than 100.000 miles in there. I also not looking to upgrade for every price, for me it would be just enough to get my one refurbished

could also anybody tell me if its a big deal to upgrade the ehc to ehc2?

If you get all the suspension from a donor truck it should all bolt on, but you might need to activate it in the ECM.

cool thanks a lot. activation stuff isn't that problem, i have the equipment therefor. what would be interesting is if my ecu needs an update therefor or does it already know about the other suspension? what i mean is does the ecu already have the option ehc2 available?

Parts alone should were £3500 ($4500??) to do my 4.6 engine. So you would need to add on labour cost to that, I would guess a $4000 engine hasnt had much done to it
