Carbon black ... after a few weeks

I've had Carbon Black a few weeks now. My views so far...

- It's a very cool/different colour. It's relatively rare and so looks more "individual".

- Yes, it gets dirty quickly, but probably not really any worse than black or any other dark colour.

- The colour is more "black" than I expected. I live in the Caribbean and expected the sun to bring out the blue more - I actually notice the blue particularly under artificial light - i.e. at night. Generally, most of the time you look quickly and see black, then you look more closely or get closer and you see the subtle blue.

- I went for matt black window surrounds, not the bright chrome standard. I'm very happy with my choice.

- I have black vents/grill - still wonder whether titanium wouldn't make it look ultra cool.

- I have black leather interior with the cosmos black trim - door handles inside still have that metallic/grey trim. I'm happy with this vs wood. Amazingly, black outside + black inside has not made the car horribly hot, despite normal daytime temperatures in the 90s (30-34C).

Cool! Love this color, CB. I once had a jet black E36 and after a going through a couple of winter seasons where I had to wash it every other day, I had it painted arctic silver. Needless to say I will never get black again although it's the best looking color.........when it's clean.

I too have Carbon Black. Its such a cool colour. Everyone takes a second glance to work out what colour it is.
I agree it looks more black than blue. In the Dark its definitly Black rather than Blue.

Why can't we have this color choice in the US? It's not even available for the 4.8iS unless you want to shell out another $2500? BMW...are you listening?

We have the color choice now. My dad just took delivery on his 2006 4.4 in Carbon Black. All the "M" colors are unlocked for the final build-out year of this generation of X5s. Your salesman might conveniently forget to mention these colors are available now.

I must say, my dad has had several black cars by several different manufacturers, and Carbon Black is by far the coolest variation of a metallic Black on a car that I have ever seen. When its kept clean its such a slick-looking paint.

Thanks...good to know. Although, I'm still a bit ticked off that it wasn't available on my 2004

Good Stuff! I have been a Carbon Black owner now for two months. Our X's sound quite similar aside from the grills. I really love not having wood as my interior. The black interior trim and exterior window trim blends beautifully with the Carbon exterior. Now I just need to work on getting painted bumpers.

I'll add that even though our Carbon Black shows the dirt quite quickly, in low light my X always seems to shine and glow. Maybe it is me not being used to BMW paint.

I agree and got it originally on my E46 M3 Carbon Black with cinnamon interior. Best combo for the M3 IMHO!

Congrats on getting Carbon Black on the X5!
