Problem with Transmission running hot?

Hi All,

My 2003 4.4 X5 Auto did something strange on the weekend. It's summer now in Sydney and took the X5 for a drive on the freeway, after about an hour I noticed the engine reved up and transmission. Put it in sports mode and noticed it would not upshift in to 4th or 5th gear always returned back to 3rdso had to limp to next stop in 3rd. The next day all ok, but again after an hour on the freeway back home the same thing. I assume it may have something to do with the transmission overheating - anyone hear or have have similar experience with their X5 transmission?

Try changing the trans fluid. Do it a couple of times, don't do a flush.

It honestly sounds like the trans is on its way out. So doing the fluid is a chance you might have to take. Your car might now move after the fluid change.

If it was me, I would change the fluid and take chances. If it works great, if not, you have symptoms of a rebuild anyway.
