Tire pressure warning light just won't leave me alone...

06 4.8is - anyone else have trouble with this?

I know they act up sometimes on all BMWs but this is really driving me nuts.

Have reset multiple times after adjusting to OEM door sticker value using digital gague, both cold and even tried warm.

Goes away for several days then returns.

Any advice? Hate to see the dealer about this, despite CPO -- they will assume the first couple of trips it just needs air adjustment.

Also --I'm assuming it's a sensor based and not ABS system? Anyone know if I can buy an aftermarket TPMS console that will read the existing stock sensors already in the wheels so I can read the actual PSI for each wheel?

Or I woud install a complete aftermarket system but then I'm afriad I'd always get the warning light since it would miss the values being transmitted from the OEM sensors I'd removed to install the aftermarket ones.

Any advice on this greatly appreciated -- thanks!

From what I've been told by BMW mechanics the tyre (tire) pressure warning system works on a relative rotation system. I.e if over 3 days 3 of your tyres do 3000 rotations and one does 3200 rotations then it senses that that tyre's pressure is lower (I don't know what the threshold is). If you do a lot of low speed turning in one direction I.e driving around and around a parking lot then from what I can gather that could cause a false error. If you do that then unfortunately there is no "cure" other than disabling the system (which I don't know how to do).

Not much help I know but I thought that by putting in my 10 cents on how the system works it may help you with diagnoses.

Good Luck

Andrew

I had the same issue with it going off every 3 days. Turned out that my tyres just weren't inflated properly. Ended up going 2 PSI higher than recommended cold and haven't had the warning since

OP: When you get the warning after several days, are the tire pressures still all where you set them, if you use the same gauge? And only check cold, not warm

Note that it is a wheel-speed sensor system, not a pressure sender system
