04 X5 Temp Gauge in Red even after temp sensor replace

Guys,

I noticed my temp gauge needle went all the way to red zone even when the X5 is idle and the engine is completely cold. I had the coolant level low warning and noticed that my coolant level was really low. Bought the coolant and filled it up and did the regular bleeding. Same issue though...

I went ahead and I did a lot of reading and searching and found out about the coolant temperature sensor which I have replaced today, yet the same issue with the temp gauge all the way up is still there.

Any idea?

Again, I don't think is the thermostat as the engine can be completely cold and needle goes to the red zone almost instantly. Please help!

Thanks,
Dany

ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED!

It appears when I inserted the new temperature sensor, it did not go in properly. I removed it and reinserted the sensor and voila! Issue is gone.

where is this sensor located? i am looking to replace mine because I am getting the 8d error code from my peake reader. Does anyone have a link to a schematic or a walkthrough as to how I can replace this sensor on my own? much appreciated.
