I wish... I couldn't locate one last month, and I even
tried Dorman, who makes these for every other car on the planet except ours.
Now that I did the job, though, it's not that bad. You just need to pop out the axle- see the search section on this. Just use like a 5 lb hammer...you'll see what I mean. |

Yes, I saw an exellent DIY on replacing the CV boot and doing a proper job. But this guy - first post
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...placement.html claims that he has a split boot. Just wondering where I can get one that fits. Yes, Dorman doesn't make those for X5, just checked their site ![]() |

Great idea!

That will keep the dirt out and save the CV joints until the boot is replaced. Never thought of doing that, thanks! DeGrand- I saw that too but couldn't find one. The last thing I wanted to do was remove the axle, but I ended up doing the quick hit w/ the 5 lb. hammer to remove it very quickly. Just need to remove the control arm near the engine- 18mm socket w/ impact gun makes this very easy. Just remember to tighten to 160nm AFTER putting the X back on the ground. |
