2oo1 x5 4.4 alternator replace- how difficult???

how hard is it to replace the watercooled alternator on my 2001 x5 4.4?
if its quite simple , how do i go about it?

not too bad

Do a search for "alternator replacement with pics" and you will find a pretty good DIY from one of the forum members.

thanks, i did find that earlier.
my local bmw indie garage have said they will put it in for £102 + vat.
1.5hrs labour! (it would take me longer than that to get in the mood to tackle it myself).and it seems quite tucked away, aswell.
i bought one off ebay £399. i will also get a £150 refund on that for exchanging the old unit.
so not too bad really.

God I'd go for that if I were you. Mine was replaced a few months before I bought it and the main dealer invoice was left in the document wallet. Not much change out of €1,000.
