X5 not starting, asking for code
My X5 E53 2002 model 4.4i is not starting. It is asking for code in the cluster. Problem occurred when I removed the cluster to install chrome rings. When I put it back it would not start. A bell sounds when I turn the key and 'Code _ _ _ _' appears on the cluster. I don't know what is the code and how to enter it in the cluster. I hope some can help. Regards, |

2 posts above yours is a nice 3 page post about this very issue. The OP tried everything that he could throw at it and eventually had his x towed to his indy where the computer was reset in 5 minutes. Read through that post..

It's the immobilizing code which is set using Radio MID.
I removed cluster at least 10 times and never had any code request. Give you were using/starting it before without inputting any code, then there's no code stored in you ZWK(or something like that module),which makes me think that it's a bug. Did you remove your cluster while the key was in the 1 or 2 position? The first step I would go with would be to remove the negative/ground terminal from the battery and see what is gonna happen, obviously would wait for few minutes while it's disconnected.

The issue has been resolved. I left the key in ignition at position 1 for 60 minutes. Then removed the key, re-inserted it and started the car. It's all good now.
