Fast Idle Issue On My 2001 X5 4.4

Hi Everyone,

High idle issue on my 2001 X5 4.4 Does anyone experience this? My X5 idles at like 8000 rpm and when I let my foot of the brakes it takes off, it’s hardly noticeable with normal driving, but if im in traffic, you have to really watch it because I will be on the car in front of me really fast even more so if I am going down hill! Is this a normal idle speed for X5’s? What does your X5 idle at?

I am assuming you meant 800 not 8000.
When cold it idles at around 800 but drops down to ~550 when warmed up.

Yes, you are right 8000 would be a screamin idle. I meant 800 rpm.

Thanks

could be a vacume leak or your gas cap is not tight.

I would guess, in this order:
Idle Control Valve
Throttle Body
Vacuum Leak

I had this problem with my CRX and it took forever to diagnose. Turned out to be a bad coolant temp sensor which was giving the IACV a bad signal.
