Need technical help with INPA install... Name your price

I have an old Vaio running XP and I have this cable.

I have installed the INPA database from the following links

BMW and INPA success E39/E46 onwards

and

DIS/GT1 Success - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum

but I keep getting errors like registry errors and so forth. I am wondering if someone with some technical knowledge would like to help me set the computer up so that it just works. Either via email or even happy to do it via screen sharing or remote desktop. I'm happy to pay you for your time.

Andrew

Hello bulk i followed that same guide. curious what kind of registry erros are you getting. when you try and scan your car ? or when you try to just go through the software? Or just when it boots up? a pic of the error would be most helpful.

Thanks for the response, I've gotta go out of town for a couple of weeks tomorrow (late notice) but if I take the laptop with me will I be able to sort out most the problems without it being connected to the vehicle? or should I just wait until I get home

wait till you get home. that way you can verify if its and install issue , adapater issue or car issue.

You can run inpa without being connected, all the way to the point of asking the car how it's doing. You 2 black-dot lights will be unfilled, but will be otherwise running and waiting for you to connect. If you get errors before you even plug in, then you can work with that inside the house or whatever. The discussion between the program, the interface 'interpretor,' and the car is just an old-timely serial conn. purpose of the cable is to isolate & match signal levels, so you can run the program to test it's function even if not giving it any data. In fact, I would check that inpa loads and opening screen, etc. without even plugging in a serial cable. I know I had mine installed and running before I ever got around to ordering a cable.

I am running the serial interface; I remember reading about a freebie utility out there that is supposed to be a good (as in thumbed up on various BWM forums) USB-serial interpreter (my wording, take w/grain of salt here). If you need a link pm me and tomorrow I'll look for it. (I threw away my last computer 6 years ago, so if it's not on this little tablet, then it waits for me to go to the office). My 8 year old laptop I use for BMW work is a "tool" so just sits on shelf in garage accordingly, but it isn't running that utility either, so nothing for me to check there.

n I think can be solved with minimal hassle.
