Question Another new guy questions....

Hey, I just bought a 2001 X5 3.0i. So far I love it. I needed to fix a few things. One, the emblems on the hood and trunck are completely worn. I should have new ones in by tomorrow. The mid is completely pixelated. I just sent that off to get fixed. It only has the valet key. I'm getting a new key fob made next week.

My question for you is, if your standing at the trunk, I noticed the driver's side compartment is completely empty. It has huge bundled wires in it but no equipment. My guess is someone yanked it all out.

So what was there? I'm not a big electronics guy, however, I can tell the sound quality is lacking. So what equipment could be installed, aftermarket, with little to no re-wiring?

That's where the nav drive, cd changer, bluetooth module, and dsp amp would be installed from the factory.

Great...........well I know it did not have dsp. No dsp button. No nav. But cd changer.... Probably. Dang it! I may have to get an amp and small sub to go in there. I don't need a huge boom but, to even out the sound.

Thanks.

Curious, when you don't have DSP, what's in the right side compartment?

Good question. When you say right side do you mean driver's side?

A fuse box, in my case. Since I have never wanted navigation, TV, and so on in my vehicles, I figured these various compartments were to carry a spare bottle of 5w-30, a pair of gloves, the trailer ball part of my receiver hitch, a pair of coveralls, and so on.

Unless you picked up a European or Japanese version of the X5 j/k

I meant the trunk compartment on the passenger side. With the DSP option, the right side compartment had the subwoofer (as well as the standard fuse box)

Okay so I took a look at both compartments. It appears that the amp is still there located on the rear drivers side compartment. Nothing, but the fuses, are located on in the right hand compartment. Therefore, I don't think I have dsp nor do I have a subwoofer. It looks like they removed a changer as well as the bracket. That said, has anyone wired a subwoofer to the original amp?

While you can certainly ask your questions here, you may want to look in the dedicated board for sound systems/electronics, on this site. Lots of posts there about what amps to use, what speakers have been used, and so on.
