suspension help?

Hey guys just was under my 01 x5 and was checking the rear suspension, dont really get it. I will be lowering my front with h&r 2" drop and was going to the rear links in the back but i might just get shocks for the back and get a set with the 4 springs but when i checked underneath i saw the airbag shock but also another shock right beside it so which one do you change? the second shock i saw is just straight up with a dust cover on it, what does this shock do ? so when i get a new shock to replace the bag i assume i will need a new strut mount to?

thanks for the help

It means you have the rear self leveling suspension.

I found out through my research . . . about a 2 months of research . . . that their are no HD shocks available for the rear (X5s with the self leveling).

I am in the process of changing my front struts to the Bils HD and installing the H&R lowering springs as well. As a mater of fact, I just took off the right front strut about an hour ago (had to stop because nanny went home). If you want to change the rear shocks (not the air bags - unless they are leaking air), you'll need to get them from the dealer - not cheap. I'm not changing my rear shocks based on the advice of the dealer. They said I should only change the rear shock if there is leakage, otherwise don't change them.

Since we are on this subject, this question is for the group:

I noticed the H&R lowering springs are much smaller than the stock springs, not just in hieght but in circumference as well. The base seems smaller and the top as well. Is this correct? Seems like I can't use the stock upper mounts.

After some investigation, I believe the Tire Rack sent me the wrong set of H&R springs. Will call them tomorrow to confirm.
