Maintenance History
I am new to Xoutpost, and am not too familiar navigating the site. I am a prior BMW owner (2004 330Ci), but do not drive one currently. I have found a 2006 X6 with all the specs I wanted and am in the process of purchasing it. I have wanted this vehicle for a long time but could not afford it previously. Could anyone please help me find the BMW maintenance history for this vehicle before I purchase it? I bought the CARFAX report and it did not contain any maintenance history. Since this is a big purchase and the car no longer has warranty, I would like to be as informed as possible prior to the purchase. All I know is that there was only one prior owner. If anyone could help or guide me, I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance for any assistance! |

I don't think you will find any "maintenance" history on a vehicle via third party. In terms of maintenance, you'd have to go to the BMW dealer he went to and request for it? BMW usually keeps a record of all the visits the car comes in for and what work had been done. At least that's what my dealership told me.
If you are looking for previous accidents, you'll find that sort of info through carfax and I am not too sure how it works for where you live, but where I live, the insurance company is monopolized so every time the car has a claimed accident, it will show up on the record. But if they pay to fix the car themselves..well...you're kind of out of luck. Goodluck

the x5 I just bought, I had the same sort of inquiries. I called the local BMW dealership that did all the services on the x5 since it was new. They basically told me nothing. Said for legal reasons they could not give me any information about previous service records that werent already on the carfax.

Your dealer will most likely not give you a printout of the service history (unless you're the original owner), but if you go see and ask a service advisor nicely, they may show it to you on their computer screen.

Thank you for the feedback. I'll see if the dealer let's me look at what has been done on the car, even if it is looking at a screen.... I have the feeling that they won't even let me do that until after I have actually purchased the vehicle, which will defeat the purpose. Doesn't hurt trying. Thanks again.

If you are considering purchasing that car from a BMW dlr, as your last post suggests, I would ask politely but firmly to view the record of maintenance, repairs, etc...it won't have any non-BWM dlr work in the record, but all BMW dlr work is recorded.
Any BMW dlr serious about selling you the car should at least offer you the chance to at least view the screen. If not, I would walk in a NY minute. GL, mD
