Front Doors and all windows stopped working

I need some help in figuring out what happened. I have a 2001 4.4 X5 with over 200,000 miles on it. I went to the store the other day and when I got back to the X5, the front doors would not unlock from my Key Fob. I then tried the key in the door and it would not unlock. Using the key fob I was able to unlock the back doors when I pressed twice.

So I climbed in through the back door and got into the driver set. Pressing the lock/unlock button only works the back door locks. I then tried the windows from the drivers side and none of the windows worked (I did not try them from the each window). Anyway the X5 starts and drives just fine.

I then took the X5 to the shop the next day and now the front driver window works but non of the other windows or front door locks work.

At the shop they are not able to get the door open and said that they need to take the door panel off and are afraid that they are going to break it because they can not open the door. A new door panel is $1500.

Any ideas or help here. I did see that there is a way to open get the lock to open with a wire if the window is open. I will try that. Is there a central module that controls all this stuff?

Thanks,

Ron

I have a stupid question, did you not try and open the doors from the handle on the inside? i'm sure thats a mechanical pull on the inside handle, the outside lock and button are electrical.

I had the exact same issue, opened both doors from the inside with there handles, took the door panels off, unplugged and replugged both window controllers in both doors and the locks and windows worked fine again since then.

I did try the inside handles. I was surprised that they did not open the doors from the inside.

Try searching "double lock" or locked I remember reading something about a double lock. No idea what the cause is but, it might help.

But the inside door handles have a mechanical connection to the door lock and should mechanically unlock the door with the first pull.

Pretty much only two things are screwed. Either your door actuators are all damaged and need replacement or the fuse is burned out. The fuse burned out for me on my E39 and the exact thing happened to me... was a $1.00 fix with OEM parts.

I do not believe you cannot open the door, at least from the inside. Even current BMWs have a wired connection to the door and is not electronic, so I don't see why opening a door would fail.
