Okay, after two years of messing with my X5, Nav retrofit, PC install and other misc doings I now have a leak when it rains in my left compartment. At one time I punctured a hole in the wire grommet for the hatch to install a gps antenna for the pc but removed it due to the leak and patched the hole. The hole is patched and the grommet is securely in place but the leak presists.
At one time I also removed the grommet for the water drain tube for the sunroof that located next to the grommet in the rear. Its back in place but maybe it could be leaking there to. I cant seem to figue where this leak is coming from. I am a rainy day away from frying my nav system. I already fried the voice module and if I didnt buy it on ebay for $40 and am not planning on getting BT, I would be crying right now.
I have a towel on everything now to buy some time but I still cant figure where exactly the leak is coming from. I ruled out the left window and it seems to be starting behind the grommet. The right side grommet has come off many times and I dont have a leak there. If I did my computer would of been fried by now since thats where its located. I guess I will have to pull off the grommet for the drain tube and see if its in correctly.
I am also trying to source the wire grommet in the bmw parts cat. but I cannot find it anywhere. I had a wild idea to install a lipstick cam with light in the headliner so I can see behind the grommets to see if there leaking. this seems to be my only logical choice to figure out where its coming from. All my trial and errors have failed.
