What can help my engine like this

Seafoam? Just can't believe it's so dirty. Any suggestion? Much appreciated!

More frequent oil changes. Less short distance trips.

That's it? Don't I need to add some additive like Sea Foam to get rid of the sludge? Or it'll go away by itself with more frequent oil change?

Thanks for the advice tho

My daily commute is 45 miles round trip. Not sure if I should take a detour every time I go home.

Other than the VANOS area, the rest of the valvetrain looks OK to me. Just wondering why only that area is sludging up...most likely because there's not much oil flowing into that area and the little oil that gets there gets cooked?

Your 45 miles commute - assuming you don't make many stops (short trips) in in-between, should be plenty long to get the engine up to temp.

BTW...how many miles on that engine?

Thanks, dkl. You might be right, the oil is cooked there, and I really don't know how to get rid of it except for using some sea foam.

It hit 135K this morning.

I agree with dkl, all the important parts look good and clean. Those are just the outside of the VANOS units and really, its just the inside that counts. You could try adding a little bit of ATF a day before changing your oil, but I don't think this is an area that will get cleaned by any process other than manually.
