3000K is yellow and typically for fog lights. 30,000k is purple and typical for ricers. I've always used 6000/8000 for heads/fogs and never thought twice or had issues.

Color temperatures are expressed in kelvins (K).

Sample temperature chart:


OEM HLs typically have a color temp of around 4300K-4500K. As you can see from the chart, its because it best matches the color temp of NOON day. This time has the brightest light (defined by higher lumens).

Therefore, the closer you are to 4300K-4500K, you will have the most lumens (brightest light).

3000K is way closer than 30000K so it will be brighter.

If you want a whiter color but not lose too much brightness - don't go higher than 6000K. That's what I went with.

Stay close to 4300K if possible. I have 5000K in all of my cars. Anything more than 8000K is probably illegal (and rice too)
