Rear passenger door

Hi all,

My REAR passenger door lock is playing me up! Most of the time it cannot be opened from the outside when unlocking via the remote-the outside handle pulls up with no purchase like its still locked. But it can be opened from the inside using the handle. Once this is done you can then open the door via the outside handle.

Before anyone screams at me to 'DO A SEARCH', I have already!!!, and found these problems only relating to FRONT doors, not REARS!! I have already taken the trim off and had a look at the lock (what you can see of it), tried WD40 etc, but no difference-so it will want replacing, unless of course someone knows another remedy...?

I managed to unbolt the lock from the door no problem, but does anyone know how to remove the lock as I could not see a way of getting my hand in there to even release the bowden cable etc.. It is an extremely small area to get into , only a small child or a contortionist would be able to I'm sure..!

Any help, or suggestions would be better than what I already know. Thanks, Ian

There is no diffrent between the front and rear door .
Sound like you have a bad outside door handle carrier.
Using the homepage DIY to fix the problem.

Thanks, I've had a look and it doesn't really seem to be the same-particularly the space in which to work.... I've had the front door trim cover off and played around with the lock for another problem some time ago, and the difference in working space is major!

Just another point, this is an intermittent fault where the outside door handle chooses to work from time to time-does it really sound like the carrier that is at fault? I only ask this because everyone who has had problems have specified they are hard faults....

Sounds like when it is acting up the door latch/lock is releasing the double lock, but not unlocking. When you pull the inside handle it releases the second layer of the double lock on the first pull then opens with the second pull.

Does the lock indicator plastic peg pop up when you unlock it with the remote when you are having the problem?

Yes Weasel, thats exactly it! When the door unlocks from the remote the plastic peg does pop up, but it looks like it gets stuck then free's itself halfway up. The upwards movement is not as smooth as the others.

When it doesn't unlock using the remote, yes you do have to pull the inside lever twice to open the door...

Could it be the actuator as amacman is kind of suggesting, or do you have another idea/cause in mind?

The actuators are built into the latches on the X5... So unfortunately you are most likely looking at a door latch replacement.

Just to put this one to bed.... I finally got round to replacing the door latch assembly today and BINGO! it works a treat. Nothing wrong with the carrier, just the actuator, and it was far easier to replace than the carrier (recently replaced the drivers door carrier), so a nice little bonus there too!

Am having a problem with my rear doors. They will not unlock with the remote, unlock button near the shifter or pulling the inside handle twice. The fuel filler cap does not unlock too but i have found a temporary solution for that.
I cannot remove the interior trim because well, the doors cannot open.

Help required, thanks in advance.
