How much is this worth?

I found a silver 2000 X5 with 156k km on it with broken tranny and the rear air suspension. The guy wants about 5k for it but I think even 4k is too much.
Since I have a spare tranny and I could replace it and get it back on the road but is it really worth doing it? I don't want to fix it for resell, just as a third car since we will need one in the next few month. Any thoughts?

I think 5k is way too much. I have seen deveral decent ones that have less miles, newer and are in good working condition for the 6k-7k range.
Keep looking, theyre out there.

And there will be others out there with fewer problems or easier fixes than a transmission and air suspension.

IF it was otherwise in great condition, I don't think you would even ask -

add $6k to the five, and you have an $11k 2000 X with a new trans and suspension, that would be a fair price if it was in good condition.

I have NOT been shopping, but I have not seen any Xers @ 100kmi/160k km for $6-7k.

I would say mayyybeeeee???? What condition is the rest of the ride in? What other packages does it have. Remember we're talking Km's not miles, so it's not that bad.

Most importantly, can you fix it yourself? If so, offer him way less. There aren't many people that can do the work required to even get it mobile, let alone in any sort of shape. That X is a hard sell anywhere, IMO.

If it runs and looks really decent, I'd offer $2500. Let him talk you back up some, and settle in the middle.

You can use it for a while, and maybe turn a little profit when you're done..

Right. I know all the repairs needed on the 4.4 as I have been through almost all of them
I asked again today and his last price is 5k otherwise he will part it out. He is not a DIYer though, I am not sure how he can part it out but that's his choice. I am not in rush so I will keep my eyes open. Thanks guys.
