Just looking at the Bentley Manual it says after replacing the coolant and bleeding

"Caution on late model cars with laytent heat pump, do not switch ignition on. These models require additional cooling system bleeding procedures. see your dealer for more information"

what does that mean in real terms?

Thanks

When replacing the radiator should I be taking the opportunity to replace anything else given the increased access? The X is now over 10 years old but only 50,000 miles. As above WP, TH and pipes done before shipping. I'm thinking sensors, switches relating to cooling. Just preparing for the Aussie summer.

Since found out there's two types of Radiator for this year model, hot cilmate and euro climate. If I have it right the euro shares the same as the 3.0l cars.

17-10-7-544-668 Early euro rad part number based on my VIN.

Thanks

At that mileage (even if it is 10 years old) I wouldn't bother changing anything else, even though I do operate a 'while you're there' logic, I also believe in 'don't fix what ain't broke'. Its not a major job, in that IF something else was to go in that area its not a major if you have to do the job again, so personally I wouldn't bother. Plus I haven't heard much about sensors etc going bad in that area-unless someone else wants to chime in with their experiences..?

As for the rad I bought mine from these guys: BMW X5 RADIATOR AUTO 2000-2006 V8 4.4 LTR GENUINE BEHR HELLA QUALITY OEM | eBay
Very fast delivery and EXACTLY the same as the one I pulled out!

Guys, need to go back to the drawing board, the Radiator has been replaced and she is still overheating.

Recent work includes Water Pump and Thermostat (as per the abvoe thread).

Going to pull the water pump and thermostat to check them.

Any other advice?

Thanks

Rad replaced, water pump checked.

Thermostat replaced

That seems to have resolved it.

Take a look at the first pic, shouldn't the bleed valve be at the top where the sensor connection is?

In this OEM version the bleed valve is at the sensor end

Good eyes. That would hold an air pocket on the thermostat.
