Self Leveling Suspension(SLS) fail

In 2010 my 2005 X5 4.8is was giving me the warning lights trifecta. Every once in awhile my SAV would become a POS. First it would ding with the SELFLEVEL SUSP INACTIV(SLS), then the ABS/BRAKE would come on with the DSC/4X4, then I would hit the trifecta with a TRANS FAILSAFE PROG(TFP). It would hesitate in 1st gear revving and stall, then there would be a big CLUNK where the transmission would SLAM into 2nd gear. Stealership quoted me 2K for (get this..) diagnosis and EHC replacement. Mind you my vehicle is not sagging in any corner. I asked why would the EHC fail so soon, the service writer, in a matter of fact tone and calmly said, "parts wear out..." To my amazement I calmly said, "do you realize this is a 5year old car?" I laughed and walked out. for the past 2 years I gingerly drove the X5 all the while scouring forums on SLS and TFP threads. I finally figured it out. Back in 2009 I remember giving a stranded driver a jumpstart because her battery died. I didn't think much of it as my SAV was still under warranty. You guessed it, the voltage regulator got cooked. Not completely fried but enough to trigger the occasional SLS/ABS/TFP trifecta. My OBC control was spiking UB:16.4V
Today, I replaced the alternator/regulator and now my ride is cherry at a steady 14.0V with no more warning lights. Now the only trifecta I wish for is with the ponies at the track.

Yea I also refuse to give anyone a jump with my car. They can borrow my booster, but no jumper cables.

Glad you figured it out. Dealer would have raped you and still you would have this problem.
