Question Annoying Trunk Rattle!

Hi there,

I have the most annoying boot rattle in my E53. I've done the following things but i'm unable to identify what is causing it.

1. Adjusted my top trunk spacers. Tried to rattle the top of the trunk but I can't seem to replicate the noise.

2. Lubricated the bottom door flap hinges (the flap that folds out when the bottom of the trunk is open).

3. Checked the spare tire and all other tools for movement.

Does anybody have any guides or tips for this? I can't figure it out!!

Regards

Do you have the retractable cargo cover back there? Those can rattle. I removed mine because of that.

My rattle was from the hatch. Replaced the adjustable bumpers with the newer spring loaded ones and all is quiet.

I'm going to remove the trunk floor, cargo cover and drive around for a few mins to see if any of these are causing the rattle.

If not, i'll go and purchase the spring loaded bumpers. Are they hard to install/do you have a part number?

Regards

They are easy to install. You just need a big socket, I don't remember that exact size.

I'm pretty sure these newer bumper stops are standard on the LCI models - not sure but my '05 seems to have them as standard.

Yeah, I wasn't sure. What makes it hard to determine is that RealOEM lists the updated part on all models (regardless of year), so it's not clear when the spring loaded version was introduced to the production line.

It may be that the ones on my '05 aren't the newer part - they LOOK like the newer part but unless I had both on hand, again I'm not sure.

I get the occasional trunk-region rattle too - it's source, sound and location vary from day to day. Insane...
