anyone please help. knocking noise on steering rack

hi guys just got my first x5 its 2001 model.

i have a problem theres a knocking noise when your turn wheel seems to be comming from both sides.

had a look underneath and thr sound seems to be comming from the steering rack i got someone to turn wheel and if i place my finger on the rack i can feel a vibration on the steering rack when you hear the knocking noise.

i removed the big plate underneith my x5 and i also removed the rubber boot off inner tie road end on the steering rack i noticed there was no grease in the boot? is the boot suppost to be all packed out with grease?

heres a short video i took in the dark you can see the steering rack inner boot removed you hear the noise when you turn the wheel.
