inner boot. no room to ge a new boot clip on.

hi i have just replaced my inner and outer tie rod ends. however im haveing trouble putting a new boot clip on the inner boot that slips over the steering rack where it goes in.

there was a stainless boot clip origanally on it but im useing a cable however there just no room to get your hands on to tighten the new clip around the boot. the sub frame is in the way.

anyone have any ideas? will i need to drop the subframe and is this a big job.
