Thinking of selling my X5 how much is it worth

Due to bad Gas mileage compare to my old car
I'm considering selling the X5 and getting a 318i again.
I'm not sure how to price the X5 considering it has
a ticking noise coming from the Vanos unit at idle.
-It's a 2000 4.4i has 109xxx miles 2 owners
-no accidents super clean all around
-zero problems except the vanos noise.
-has factory step bars oem 4.6is wheels
-rear tow bar
-Navigation, xenon, rear air suspension.
What is a fair price? considering most people
will be scared from the noise.

Dunno the OP's situ, but a new/newer car that gets 'better mpg', in lieu of an existing car, takes years to break even on the mpg/gas cost equation. The net has pages of 'payback periods'; most are 5+ to 7+ years.

But I realize everyone has different needs and rationale...

It's really bothering me and I just dont know why, but
the thing is I do 100% city driving no highway and I used to put $30/week on the 318i compare to $70/week.
I tried driving with a light foot, no idle, cut back on the A/C and still
no apparent difference in mpg

V8 Xs are not 'econo cars' in serious, constant, Gotham City area type stop and go driving...I understand that.

All things being equal/accurate/unchanging, you may save ~$2Gs a year on gas. Is that 318 already in your stable, and you are just tossing the X5, or are you going out and buy a new/slightly used 318? If buying that 318, you won't live long enough to recover the cost(s), money invested in a depreciating asset, etc., gas mileage/gas cost-wise.

But, if one wants a new/newer or different car, than all the mpg talk rationale is academic, imo.

Apples and oranges. Ever try to carry anything in a 318? Totally different cars. A 318 really can't get out of its own way but if you use it only for city driving, it's fine. Want better mileage? Maybe get a cheap, small, Japanese car and keep the X.

MD I was thinking about selling the X5 and getting a 96-98 318i for 3-4k. You know what man you're right. Basically I will be paying 2,000 more a year by keeping the X and I think its worth it considering the extra space, comfort, AWD and safety. I love the X just hate the Gas mileage, guess its big jump for me my OBC used to read 28mpg now reads 12mpg.

This is a pretty good idea. I did considered getting a cheap civic, but a decent running civic will probably cost me $2000-2500 plus the 100 extra insurance bill a month plus maintenance.

llllBULLSEYE,
I wasn't trying to dissuade your idea or, talk you into/out of any car...
However, if I was still back in NYC, driving around, the last car I would want is a 15+ year old BMW that when I sneezed needed a grand worth of repairs at my Indie.

That beater Civic isn't a bad idea, unless you want/need the space, and I agree I would rather navigate the canyons of the City & boroughs in an X vs a well used little econo-box.
Good luck, whatever you decide.

UPDATE on this
I ended up getting a 96 Acura Integra as a second car
cheap $1200.
So far 1 whole week I spent $30 dollars in gas
way better than I expected.
I'm Happy and the X5 can stay much cleaner now.
