"lock to lock" means turning the steering wheel completely counter clockwise until it stops, then turn it completely clockwise until it stops.

Lock to Lock or Double Lock?

Double lock means you can't open a door even if you bust the window out. The door actuator for all intent purpose is lock down.

Huh? When I hear "Lock to Lock" I am assuming one is referring to steering, not door locks.

And what do you mean by double lock? If an actuator has failed, its not called double lock or in lock down mode, it has just malfunctioned. Or did I miss something?

you sure have missed some other threads... hahaha... lock-to-lock is clearly a steering angle resetting procedure, while double lock is the central locking system function, when the car is double locked (available in many german made cars)...when the car is double locked (in US, it means arming the alarm, as alarm is a STANDARD feauture in US-bound cars), the locks, the trunk, the fuel cover are all locked up, and can not be opened from inside with a standard double-tug on the inside handle. I believe the only exception to that is the trunk and possibly the top hatch on the X, due to some Federal regulations in the US. in case of power failure, the driver's door still can be opened mechanically, then power restored and the rest of the doors can be opened...

haha how did you know Term. lol. Yeah I figured as much. Now the "Double locking" in US, if you hit the remote lock twice, doesn't that disable the motion sensor? Single lock places the vehicle in full armed mode, double lock disables the motion sensor correct?

dude, you are making this more confusing for the folks reading it!!!

the double push on the remote indeed disables the motion sensors inside the car, in case if you wanted to leave your GF's dog that gives you allergies in the car on a sunny day in the Death Valley parking lot... then you press the lock on the remote twice, thus double locking the doors (so the dog can't escape!!) and then disabling the internal motion detector, so it can't set off the alarm!!! OOOHHH, what an evil planner you are!!!!!!

Yeah...you musta missed the ongoing thread about dead battery and doors were double-locked.

Clink the link below...there is a 4 page BMW tech info explanation of the central locking system...everything you need to know about it (and "double-locked") is already written and is ready for reading.

Central Locking System Info: http://www.xoutpost.com/912519-post18.html
