If No, then why bother with 'wheel cleaner'? Any carwash will do.

Yes and no. How about that for an answer?

At some point there is no avoiding brushing but there are times when the wheels are not as bad but where a proper wheel cleaner like Sonax or Duragloss helps break up brake dust enough to eliminate the need for brushing. I also find that there are some bits of brake dust that are almost baked on and Sonax helps loosen these whereas simple car wash detergent won't. Just check out the many examples in Phil's detailing forum.

My usual routine is to spray on Sonax, let it sit and work its magic, then go in with a small brush to get the nooks and crannies that no one could expect a spray application of whatever to get. I do believe that the Sonax makes the brushing part easier, especially when you're eating up OEM pads that put off a ton of dust.

I concur with Sonax. I love that stuff. If the dust is really stubborn, I'll hit it again. If there are still spots, I'll hit it with Iron Cut. If I am in a super rush, I'll use a brush and wash it away. If I am dedicated in cleaning and detailing the car, Ill whip out the pressure washer and no brushing needed!!!

I've been trying a variety of products lately and some def work better than others. I have not tried Sonax, however.

"Phil's detailing forum" ?? Do tell! I participate on autogeek, and will browse that one from the UK............

I don't run any of my cars through a car wash (i.e. automatic swirl machines), and since I'd prefer not to use any microfiber wash mitts on wheels, I'll use a spray wheel cleaner. Or sometimes just an APC if nothing else.

Are you referring to what I think of as Iron-X?

Ok, 2 calls for Sonax, so I guess I'll throw that in my cart for my next order.

That stuff you got seems pretty good though. I wonder how it does on Chrome? Can't find a product that works very well on chrome. Sonax doesn;t do much, hot wheels doesn't have a chance, I haven't tried that brown stuff yet. So I guess we will see.

Iron Cut is from Aquartz, that is the original. Iron X is from another company. Does the same thing, but I think Iron Cut does a better job.
