New x5 owner with rear air suspension question

Hi everyone. I'm a new X5 owner and i have the self leveling suspension. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but every once in a while i could hear my rear air bags working. It makes a vibrating rattling noise. I didn't know where it was coming from at first until i tried the self leveler. It only seems to make noise or rattles when I raise it or it raises itself. The bags seem to work fine, it goes up and down. I'm just trying to figure out if the rattle/vibrating noise is normal.

Also I have a Black 03 4.4 with 60k. Any recommend major service i should do?

thanks in advance

there is an air pump, and it should make some noise... of course, if it sounds as a diesel engine, than something could be wrong, like the cushions that cancel vibration or internal mechanics... from your description it seems that you have all 4 corners auto leveling - regardless, it is normal for the pump to kick in when it is raising the car, and be silent when the air is released via valves...

how loud is rattle? does it wake up neighbors in the middle of night? or does it whisper loudly?

SOme noise is normally. The system isn't completely silent. You will hear a burble when the compressor kicks on, or a hum. So do you have 4 wheels air suspension or just rear? Let us know.

And welcome to the forum.
