Miles til empty alert at every start?

My 04 X5 3.0 has started to give me chimes and the distance til empty on the display at every start regardless of the amount of gas in the tank. I believe this should only happen when the tank is under 31 miles. I have 91K on the clock and there have been some odd electrical issues including dead battery. Any thoughts?

has the "dead" battery been replaced or revived? you should go with a fresh battery, as a drop in nominal voltage, or a dead cell inside the battery will cut loose some gremlins in the system...

The battery was replaced at the dealer 2 years ago. I have been having random start/electrical issues for the last year. I may look into a replacement.
