yellow engine managment light ?!

2005 E53 4.4i yellow engine managment light on and off intermitantly, been told its nothing to worry about and is to do with some sort of carbon emisons filter under the front wing ?

if this is true is does anyone know a quick fix or removal for the faulty part or is it stricktly a garage job ?

havent noticed any change to running while light is on.

cheers

There are thousands of codes that will cause the check engine light to come on. No way to know or guess the real problem without a starting point

Was sort of thinking that but was hitting and hoping, had it checked couple of weeks ago and was told by garage it was some sort of charcoal filter under the front wing to do with emissions ( cant remember ) thought some one would have an idea I,v not worked with patrols much

heading to the garage next week to get it plugged in again and sorted

Thanks anyway guys

If you don't want the garage to check it out, you can get a cheap OBDII scanner (I got mine from ebay costing $27 delivered), and do a scan. The X5 comes with a OBDII port where you can plug it in.

It'll then provide you the code(s) which you can search the CD that come with the unit (or the net) to see what's causing the "Check Engine" light to come on.

And if it's intermittent, the scanner can also clear all errors. But the light will come back on if the fault is still there.

If your car seems to run well and idle smoothly and the "Check Engine" light comes on, most common cause are worn out O2 sensors - part of your exhaust/emission system. But as mentioned above, it'll be hard to tell until you know the error code.

No engine techie here, (my shade tree skills from the '60s have faded), but a scanner giving a basic p code leads to a decision tree that offers several potential 'fixes', not all of which may be necessary. The higher end 'scanners' with the appropriate software, zero in on a specific 'fault' which usually points to a specific repair, vs parts and parts replacement, in my brief experience with a recent 'code'.

Well plugged in my scanner and got code po444

Have anyone had dealings with this ? any info would be great to save me searching all over the net or going back to the dealers

I'm handy with the tools so fixing it myself shouldnt be a problem

Cheers
