Maybe a silly question.....
Early this morning was the first time I had put the heat on in the X. I noticed what sounded like some sort of aux motor running on the pass side of the engine. Ran for about 20-30 seconds then winded down. What is this? Is it something silly i'm just overlooking? I know the A/C motor runs at times to help defrost but it wasnt that.

That was from your blower motor...watch out for that.

the blower motor really? Didnt sound like it was coming from there. I mean I'd expect the blower motor to be on when the heat is on, thats a no brainer. Is that sound a bearing going bad? Not normal? Or did I completely miss your sarcasm in your response lol

Not the blower motor, it's the air pump. On start up the air pump runs to pump air into the exhaust system upstream of the cats, this allows the unburned hydrocarbons an oxygen envionment to be consumed in. The pump runs for 30 secs.

Bam that's exactly it. When I lifted the hood it sounded like it was close to the manifolds. Just never heard it before as loud as it was. TY
