Engine rattle help please - Video Diagnosis

2013_05.15 X5 Engine Noise - YouTube

Vanos?
Pulley bearing?
water pump?
Timing Chain?
Spun rod Bearing?
Valve Tappet?

the noise SEEMS to come more from the front of the engine but that's not perfectly clear.

6cyl 3.0 with 130k lightly driven miles....dealer maintained to 100k. enthusiast maintained since.

recently replaced oil separator hose after it wouldn't start. oil usage has crept up since. 2 quarts added in 4000 miles. no rough running at all though. Runs like a top in fact.

that is more of a growl... does not seem to correlate with the RPMs of the engine... at some point, it sounded like a kid slurping milk shake at the bottom of a glass with a straw... like bubbling sound or something... but then again, it sounded like some rough metal surfaces were rubbing against each other.. all, while the engine sounded ok - so, could it be something around the engine? like a water pump?

sorry, not much help here, but in any diagnosis, an extra set of uninhibited eyes could be helpful... could it be some road debris got caught in somewhere...

Unplug the idle control valve .. If the noise goes away .. Then replace the idle control valve ..
If not it call trade in...

water pump would be the most desirable issue.

BUMP. so shortly after i made this video, the "check engine oil level warning" came on. I added a quart of oil and the noise is now all but disappeared. Does that give any indication as to the source? I'm still thinking vanos, but not certain.
