Possible to install Adaptive Xenons on Prefacelift Xenon?

I have a set of Adaptive Xenons from a 2005 X5 that have been sitting in my garage for years. A buddy of mine has a 2001 X5 with Xenons. He already has all the facelift cosmetic parts from a 4.8iS. Is it possible to install these headlights onto his car? Even if the Adaptive part doesn't work... what kind of issues would he be looking at? I'd appreciate any help or guidance. Thanks.

i have a factory PDF for retrofitting xenons on non-xenon E53... but i am afraid, the instructions are for regular xenons, not the adaptive ones... it is in 38 pages, can't post.
