Window fix....Anyone figured how to NOT go to dealer?

Hi all,
I am just so sickened by the disgusting greed of the dealer to charge damn near $1000 dollars just so I can roll my window up and down again. I would really like to figure out a way to fix my issue(a motor) without having to take it to the STEALER so they can rob me blind! I just don't understand why it is they feel they have to charge people damn near ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS to fix a WINDOW! It is just so ridiculous. Anyway, If anyone out there has figured a way around taking their X in to get the window motor replaced & reprogrammed, please chime in and help a brotha out! Seriously.......A THOUSAND DOLLARS?........SHEESH!

Steve

Don't fret, do a forum search, tons of threads about how to fix your window problems.

i have fixed windows on the E39 and on the E53... what is wrong with yours? chances are, you have a plastic clip ($2 part) that has broken, and unless you have tried many times to move the window up and down to the point of motor breaking, the fix is relatively simple...

described your issue, we might be able to help you, your cost will be a few bucks, and some of your time - if you are handy with some light hand tools...

You know there are places other than dealerships right?

There is also a search function with pages of info on broken windows.

You'll need to be a little more descriptive in what your window is doing, or not doing. Lots of potential problems and even more ways to fix them. And yes, search can be your friend; it's likely someone else has had the same problem and found & posted a solution to it.

One thing I've learned with these cars and many other BMWs is that they don't like to have the door slammed shut with the window all the way down. That probably doesn't help you in your current situation, but it may help avoid another one.

Dude, most of us here don't go to the dealer unless we have to. And I hope they gave you cab fare after such a screwing.

I love that gif. Seen it around a bit.

OP: If you were closer I'd take care of your window troubles for $500. That's half the dealer's rate!

And if he did it himself, it would be less than half that.
