Fender flare installation help

Hey all,

I have the leman special edition fender flares for running boards and have trouble attaching the rear part that goes to the bumper on a 3.0. I have the template etc to stick on the bumper To make the cuts, but I'm not hundred percent confident how to attach the rear flare.

Does anybody have DIY instructions, my flares came without!?M

the flare has a hole at the bottom, and it is the one that has a expanding rivet going through that hole on the flare into the bumper trim. other than the rivet at the bottom, the rest of the flare is held by those slits that are cut ionto the body of the OE fender... Since on OE installation it is sturdy but for DIY it might look flimsy, the folks here came up with all the mods their are talking about - like using special scres, etc...

you have the full, complete installation instructions, there are none better...

I had the same problem, after I cut it I couldn't get the clips in from behind. There is no opening there. To do that you will have to remove the bumper cover and remove the side covers that are installed on the inside part of the bumper cover. I haven't done that though. I don't know why the instructions don't cover that. I only used the aluminium river at the bottom of the fender flare part and two-part epoxy adhesive on the cuts.

And it's holding up well. Not flimsy.

It does look and feel solid. It was the easiest solution for me. Epoxy becomes hard when cured. Just use the one for plastic. I used the brake clamps to hold it in place over night while the glue was curing.

Did you the epoxy on the slids of the flare or over the cuts? Thanks

I used epoxy on both, the holes I made on the bumper using the template came in the kit and the flare plastic pieces that supposed to go through these holes. I drilled a couple of holes on these pieces to get more support when the glue goes through. I didn't have to remove the wheel or the wheel well only the two screws that connect the wheel well to the bumper and pulled it away to create room for the brake clamps. I am confident that it will not come off. I used the same glue when I installed the front bumper piece (I guess spoiler is called?) from the 4.6 body kit. It's been a few years and it's strong as one piece.
I guess you shouldn't use glue if you plan to take the flares off at some point. I don't see any reason to do that so I decided that epoxy works for me.

Great, thanks. I might go the same route if I don't hear any other suggestions.

I wonder how people used screws. They just screwed it in. Wouldn't the crew heads be visible?

Any other suggestions?

I didn't cut the slids on the bumper. I trim off all the tabs on the flare and attached it to the bumper with small plastic screw. It's been at least 6 months without any problem. I know Tom (mrbmwX5) had them mount this way for years on his.

Thanks to share. What kind of plastic screws did you use? So are they visible?
