Got NCS Expert to Work, need some literature on use
Sup all. I finally had an hour to kill, so I managed to get INPA and NCS Expert to work. Yay.
Do you guys have any good links on how to use NCS. I managed, somehow clicking on stuff, and following a mess of how to threads to get the FSW_PSW.trc file. Not sure if I did it correctly, but it has stuff in it. So when I change, this, how do I upload it? Please hook me up with some literature that pertains to our e53 coding. Thanks in advance.

I have a sheet in my garage that I cant seem to find at the moment. but basically here is what you need.
1. there are only a few codable modules in the e53, the ones you really care about are the GM3 and the LCZ. 2. the way the process works is you code the car by reading the module. This creates the .trc file. then you manipulate the file using work pad, changing the aformentioned values. you save that text file as .man, and then write that code to the module. viola. 3. to do this, you need a coding profile. Beyond expert mode and comfort mode. There are two you can use. Revtor or Fister. you will have to search for them. I prefer revtor, but its alittle kludgy. google .pfl to find them. the steps are as follows: 1. load the profile under file 2. hit f1 3. hit f3 4. pick e53 5. pick EWS or GM3 to read your vin into the system 6. hit f6 to go back. 7. now you have to start reading the modules. You can only code one at a time. 8. hit f4 to bring up the module specific menu 9. pick the gm3 for example 10. go to f2, change job. the default here is SG_codiren which is write, you need to select, codiren lessen, which is read. 11. now select f3, which is execute job. In the work folder you will see the trc file. edit away. to upload the changes. go to f2, and select sg-codiren, the f3 to execute. Be very careful with editing the .trc file. I dont know what happens if you feed it incorrect data, but just make sure you are getting your activ/nicht-active's right, and in the same position in the file. You should see the changes immediately, so test inbetween each upload. If youre righting these and they are not taking, you may need to try a different profile, as only certain ones do uploading. confused yet? I did this once on my e46, and it took me a week to get comfortable doing it. I did it, I love it (windows up with key!), when I got this car, it took me another week of research to feel good about it again. but i did it, and I love it. good luck, and if you have any questions, just PM me. If I can find my cheat sheet in the garage, I will scan and post for you.

Thanks dude. Yea I used the revtor profile. I got confused by the .trc and the .man. I didn't realize you had to change the extension. I keep looking for the damn .man file.
Also, I don't know what I did, but my NCS is in English. But your F shortcuts should help me understand where to go. I know I did something wrong because I never saw the gm3 module. I saw the EWS selection, after I chose e53. Then I got lost and was randomly clicking, then shutting down the program because of fear of messing something up. I have a list of things I want to do. So as soon as I get the correct Trc file, I am sure I will ask for more help.

guys, what are the rules on exe files? only available via PM, or they can be posted?
Slick - i have a tool that will make your programming life just a bit easier, it is an exe file... or, maybe you can google it yourself, BMW Coding Tool, it is about 500Kb... |

Do we need any instructions to use the BMW Coding Tool or we can figure it out.
I didn't use NCS yet but I used the winfkp to swap modules and upgrade. I wonder how easy it is comparing with NCS. I will give it a try this weekend as well I hope. Do you know if it would be the same procedure for my 2000 model?

i just freed up my PM box... the coding tool does NOT code, it translates the german abbreviations (not all, but a few), and lets you change the ACTIV to NICHT_ACTIV with a click of a mouse, also lets you compare two files, like the original file vs the newly created file, to see what the differences are...
were you guys able to find it via google? |

You should be looking at the BMW Coding Tool website. The download link is at the bottom of that page.

BMW Coding Tool is your best friend when using NCS, I have it and was able to code both the E46 and X. Took me 2 tries, but the second time worked like a charm.
Make sure you open the Coding Tool first and follow the directions given within the tool itself. The only thing is that not every item is translated, still have to do some Google translation to figure out some of the options if you don't speak or read German. The biggest success for me with this tool was getting rid of the Inactive Suspension message on the dash after swapping the air for coils. Did the window thing, the DRL disable, fogs on with HB and a few other minor things. |
