Red face Repairing steering angle sensor rather than replacing it

Did anyone heard about repairing steering angle sensor rather than replacing it? A specialized car electronics shop claims it can repair the sas instead of replacing it. Theoretically speaking, if the sensor can be opened and if it contains electronic parts inside, then repairing it is possible ( misconnecton, burnt resistor, blown capacitor).

I just replaced mine and opened it up. Quite simple of a sensor. Based on the inner workings, 99.9% of the time its going to be small brushes that touch an inner ring. These small delicate "fingers" simply wear down. I heard of someone taking a junk yard part and replacing the worn part to his success. After seeing mine, I could believe it being a viable option. Probably save $150 that way in parts. But overall not a difficult thing to try to do.

OT, but what are your symptoms? My M5s blinkers sometimes don't self cancel and I've thought this might be the cause but my dealer had never heard of the issue so didn't have a recommendation.

You can always be the first
Take it apart, try it out, take pictures, and report back with pictures. Good luck

Thanks X5Ghost. I went to that specialist and checked to find the fault is coming from the sas itself. He reset the fault and the light went off. calibrated it through scanner but he said the light will come up soon. Try it for a while. 2 meters away from the shop and the light came up again. Hopefully on Monday he will open the sas itself and will repair it and he guarantees the repair. He described same procedures 2003x5guy mentioned in this thread. didn't ask him about the warranty period, but considering a special price of 135$ he gave me, it deserves the try. Sorry for the pictures, he won't allows me to document the repair. It is normal
