xenon changed to purple color

Does this mean the bulb is going bad or the ballast? I searched here and didn't see other posts with this problem.

Bulb is beginning to fail. Make sure to replace both when you do it or you will have 2 different light colors.

The OE ballast rarely go bad... the light bulbs do... you did not indicate what year your car is - it could be 1999 or 2006... regardless, the replacement HID light bulbs are dirt cheap now - just make sure you get a decent bulb for a reasonable price ($50 +- $10) and not a completely trashy bulb for $5...
Buy the replacement bulb in pair, as the color scheme is shifting as the bulb burns in, and the new bulb in one headlight and the old bulb in the other one will look odd... the factory color temperature is 4300K, you probably can go safely to 6000K without sacrificing much of the light output but if you go higher in the color output, like 10 000K, then you will get really purple hue of the light and very little of the light on the road...

check ebay for the light bulbs, they have a gasillion of them for sale...

hid lights do not go by normal wattage of halogen bulbs, like standard 55W and the you buy 100W bulb... the hid consumption is 35 watts but the operating principle is different. you need to buy D2S light bulbs, with standard base, preferrably from a reputable seller.

do not alter wattage, voltage and/or amperage of HID system: the ballast operates at 25 000 volts nominal and can spike to 35 kV, and with human body rated at 1 kilo-ohm you might get 25 Amperes going through your heart in a fraction of a second. 1 amp is enough to fry a man.

I am not trying to scare you, replacing the light bulb in HID systems is safe - but altering things within HID system is NOT safe

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
get D2S morimoto bulbs 35w from theretrofitsource.com - 50 bucks and they are equivalent to Philips in quality. You also have color temp options, 4300k is OEM, personally I go 5000k for a touch more white
