Portable Air Compressor?

Hello,

does anyone use portable air compressor to check/fix tire PSI?
what brand do you have? what's your experience with it?
I Need some recommendations here

Thank you!

the one that comes in the e46m3 kit is pretty nice. has the fix-a-flat thing in there as well as the pump and its pretty small. i would imagine it would fit in the spare tire well pretty good in the e53.

I have one that I keep in the back of the X5. Actually, I used to keep it there until I got the E90 with run flats. Now it's in the trunk of the E90. I think that no matter which one you get, the 12V portables are limited. They work well enough but take their sweet time. I'd get one from Sears or Costco. I got a Coleman branded one when they were on clearance from Radio Shack of all places.

I have since purchased an actual air compressor that I use at home. It's a $80 Costco special that works great for filling tires and blow drying the water out of crevices of the cars. All I needed to buy were a tire inflater and an air pistol.

I bought one at Wal Mart. Don't remember how much it cost, but it was cheap. Works ok. I also carry a tire patch kit.

I used to carry the same one that I first saw in a Porsche accessories brochure. It is in a flat case with the cord coiled inside. I think it was called "Inter Compressor." Porsche had put a badge on the case and was selling it for around $100 I think, but I bought it at Pep Boys for $50. Great unit.

When I got the X5 I decided I needed a portable power supply/jump starter/air compressor so I bought the Xantrex Power Pack 400R. It's a great unit overall, unfortunately it's BIG and heavy. No where in the X5 does it fit well unfortunately and it seems to take up a ton of space in the trunk. It has tons of features and works well. Crutchfeld sells it for $100.

I got one that plugs into my cigarette lighter for about $40. I usually check and top off my tires every few months first thing in the morning while there cold. I can feel the difference of 2 - 3 pounds of air. I've even used it to refill a slow leak flat to drive to the tire store to save removing my spare. I average about 1 -2 nails in my tires per year!

i'm considering an ARB air compressor for my X5 E70. How do you exactly connect the air compressor? WIll it damage the electronics in the car?
