Door open alert

At about 1 am in the morning the X's alarm started going off. After the second time it reset and went off again. I rush out there and see nothing.
I get in the X. start it and drive off. Immediately the door open alert comes accross the dash. I'm like hmm so my doors open. I check all doors and not a single door or trunklid is opening. Im going crazy now i get out and slam shut all 4 doors the dash is is saying door open still. I noticed the central locking is not working either. Its locking but not unlocking. I then figured maybe its a fuse. I pull the central locking fuses in the rear. THAT DIDNT fix it. I couldnt get the back lid open. Next i pulled the central locking fuses up front 20,24, and 60. this allowed me to lock the door manually via key. But only the drivers door can be locked. That allowed me to go to bed with the x locked but without the alarm armed. I drove to work and after every complete stop i got the same error door open.

Does anyone have a way of troubleshooting this. I would love to find out what door is causing the fault. But all it says is door open. Would disconnecting the battery for 15 mins reset the computer and possibly fix my door open issue. or Move my steering wheel from 1 side to the other side in position 1?

History- we had some bad rain earlier that day. I parked my car and that was it. no indication it was a door fault. and I only had opened my driver door and rear driver side door.

Is there a sensor i can bypass. I know on other cars its just a trigger on the door with a switch i could just short or break the circuit. On this X5 i have no clue where to look. Im not even sure what to search on here.

I used to get this door open alert after I replaced my door handle carrier(an easy DIY). Very annoying indeed. After I disconnect and reconnect the battery this warning disappeared. Maybe that's something you can try.

Hmm, I think you can figure out which door is open by starting up the engine, then one-by-one...open each door (individually) then close it as if someone just exited the vehicle. If the door's actuator is functioning properly...the interior lights should fade out as normal a few seconds after shutting. The door that is the culprit...the interior lights should stay on since it thinks the door is still open.

And until you figure it out...there's a way that you can still "electrically" lock all the doors without arming the car. There are 2 locking situations, single & double lock. When you lock the car using the central lock button on the center console...or the 5MPH auto lock feature....the car is single locked only (no alarm is activated). When you lock the car with the key (in the door) or using the remote buttons...both from outsided the car....the car is double-locked and the DWA (anti-theft alarm siren system) is automatically activated.

You can reinsert the fuse you removed...and single lock the vehicle by:

1. exiting the vehicle and re-enter through one of the passenger doors (front or either of the rear doors) and press the central lock button on the center console...then exit through that passenger door (making sure you have your keys in hand before you close that door)
2. do the same procedure above, except manually press down all of the door lock pins, lastly exiting through one of the passenger doors

The one thing to remember is...the driver's door has an anti-lockout feature....it can NOT be locked while it is open...thus it must be closed before it can be locked manually or electronically...which is why one of the passenger doors must be utilized to single lock the vehicle if no one is left inside the vehicle to do it.

And to others reading this...this is why you NEVER lock passengers (double-lock) inside the vehicle...always let them lock the car after you've exited. Because if you do...30 seconds after you've pressed the lock button on your remote key...the interior motion sensor will be armed and as soon as they move...the alarm will go off, and they won't be able to get out of the car (the interior handles are disabled in double-lock unless a specific procedure is followed). They will be stuck inside the car with the alarm blaring and lights flashing...they will NOT be happy with you when you return....this includes pets, too.

Did someone tried to slim jim your car and mess up one of the lock sensor? That's is why you should never slim jim newer cars.

I have no clue.. all i know is she started screaming around 1am.. i was like dang that sounds like my car. I go outside and it is. I was like WTF.

Check the window weatherstrips at the doors, if they tried to slim jim the car, they might had messed up the weatherstrip.

-not sure when you replaced the battery (or if) but being an '06 that could be the culprit, or at least something to look into. .. there is also a connection with the separate battery for the alarm that is under the hood that charges ( i believe) from the the 12v the sits under the spare.

words of caution if changing the battery and recommendations

1) remember that to keep access to the trunk if you are doing the battery exchange yourself, not to close the gate after removing old battery.

2)you may want to have a trickle charge or other connected to the vehicle in order to keep avoid any lights that you cannot remove with software ( when I did a swap two weeks ago the 4x4 and the airbag light came on. The 4x4 turned off with wheel lock to lock but the ab light remains. Still looking for help on that one as I do not have a scan tool)

3)If you do decide to purchase a battery from a local auto parts store NAPA, Advanced Auto, or Auto Zone, if you do not charge yourself at home I would strongly suggest purchasing the battery and having them charge it for 4 hours prior to install -- regardless of the date on the battery and regardless of the v. readout.

(Qsilver7, Terminator X5, MotorDavid, and X5_Meister all have various threads on the above if you do a search and could probably provide more clarity than I ever could, but a heads up anyway)

I actually replaced the battery on a cold day in september of this year. So its not the battery. Checked the weather stripping no signs of slim jim. So the culprit was the water. From the rain that day. And the puddles of water i hit. Next day it was nice and sunny and when i came back to my car to get in no more sensor issues. I put the fuses back in and its been working fine now ever since. Now I just need to replace my interior door handles for cosmetic reasons, replace front windshield weather stripping and replace the stupid plastic handle for the pullout floor. 128 bucks for a piece of plastic that pulls a metal hydaulic line. Jeez what were the engineers thinking.
