4.8is bumper replacement instead of spoiler

I know this topic has been covered a billion times on the forum, but I can't seem to find anybody replacing their entire bumper. Most of the threads are people with the regular 3.0/4.4 bumper and adding on the rear spoiler instead.

I looked on ebay, and there is 1 4.8is rear bumper and 1 4.6is rear bumper. I was wondering if there is any difference between them? Also, I had realized that the 4.8is rear bumpers come standard already with the wheel arches, so if I were to purchase the 4.8is bumper I would also need to buy some sort of rear wheel arches to complete the rear portion?

Once again, I'm buying the whole rear bumper. Not the just rear spoiler. I would assume the 4.8is bumper would fit on a 3.0 as well?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

As for the rear bumper all E53 used the same bumper and you DO NOT need to buy a whole bumper ,just need the 4.6/4.8IS lower spoilers ( Remember if you buy the whole rear bumper plus the lower spoiler = more money you have to spend)

For the rear arches you don't have to go with that just keep it as slim line ,but if you want wider look you have to.

Hey guys, the reason for the whole bumper replacement is because I got rear ended and my bumper now is not repairable. I have read most of the threads on the 4.8is spoilers, and nobody has seemed to have changed their whole bumper instead, which will my case in this situation.

You can do one of two things:

1. Have the body shop order the bumper cover for your 2005 3.0 with associated supports and trim as necessary. (PN 51127027046 if you don't have PDC.) Then have them order the 4.6is/4.8is rear spoiler pieces separately and install on the 3.0 bumper like others.

2. Order the 4.6is/4.8is rear bumper cover (PN 51127062597 without PDC) and you'll probably get the bigger flares, or "supports", ordered with it so you might wind up having to add the bigger wheel arches. Some people like doing that too. It's just more money.

This the 4.8is diagram. I think 2 is the bigger support that would require you to get the bigger wheel arches.

You dont say if the other party in your accident is responsible for the costs?
If this is case, then just get the 4.6/4.8is complete bumper ,as this is already pre-drilled to accept the wide bumper fender inserts.Leaving you just to order the wheelarch flares to complete the "look"..
I say this because if you purchase the standard 3.0 bumper, this isnt pre-drilled and you have to go through all the hassle of then adapting the 4.6/4.8is bumper inserts...

Thanks for all the help guys! Yes, the other party is at fault. Got rammed while stopped at a red light. I have ordered a complete 4.8is bumper from ebay. I'll see where I can find the arch extensions once I get the bumper.

I thought getting the 4.8is bumper would be less of a hassle, than getting the 3.0 bumper and putting on all the spoiler parts. (don't care too much about the flares though, since I'm running 17's during the long Canadian winter) but I guess with the 4.8is bumper, I"ll have to get the arches. Anybody know what arches I'd need to complete the arch look for the rears? I have running boards + parking sensors if that makes any difference?

In buying the 4.8is bumper, with the flare inserts, you will have to get the wheel arch fender flares.
Most economic OE method is to purchase the wheelarch flares for the 3.0D Special edition and if you PM ,ECS ,the site sponsor ,they will give you a best price.Alternatively ,call your dealer and ask them for part number 51710398336.Price here in Europe at current exchange rates ,is approx usd 350.
Included in this kit is also the front fender flares ,as well as the rear bumper inserts, which you will not use,as you would have bought these, included in the 4.8is bumper.
Fitting of the kit is easier ,without the bumper inserts as you would have to drill the 3.0 bumper, the rest is a matter of punching out plastic rivets ,removing existing flares and fitting the extended ones with plastic rivets ,which are all included in the fitting kit.
