opps, power probs with nav monitor

i hope someone can help before i rip the 5hit out of the wiring.
ive had a aftermarket sat nav for years and had no problems, then it started to freeze and muck about,
coz i buy a new model every year i went back to shop who are good and they have contacted kenwood and kenwood has said its everything else and not there sat nav, anyway my warranty had just run out and the shop did me a favour and sent it off to be repaired free of charged or replace, lets see what i get back..
well since ive had the orginal bmw factory widescreen nav back in i noticed the screen flicker and restart, so i feel its not the kenwood but a lose wire or a problem with the wiring somewhere.
does anyone know how this can be fixed.
i know this little split second power lose is the problem that causes my kenwood to muck about because when i explained to the man in the shop his said he had one like this before and for the life of them they couldnt fix it until by chance they noticed one of the power wires on the back of the kenwood was lose and the repaired it and never had a problem since, i know it aint nothing to do with the kenwood side because it happens with the bmw nav
Tar

wow, this one will almost impossible to diagnose remotely - you have a double whammy here, first, the original nav is removed to accomodate the aftermarket nav, then aftermarket one is malfunctioning, and the original is refitted and is malfunctioning now... after so many fingers in the wiring loom, anything is possible... from a loose connector, to a knicked wire that is grounding somewhere...

Does the either nav system function properly on a bench?

Ill have to wait and see what Kenwood say about the bench test.
If it is a power lead then it must be the big main connector block in the back that connects to the bm54 box. It must be that coz there ain't much else that connects to each other, I had to put the extension iso lead there. Ill get a good look at the plug at the weekend. I have not touched anything in the boot since it was fitted 12 months or so ago, that's why I was thinking it might be something other than the loom.
Thanks for reply.

Have you tested your electrical system? Most of these can be checked in the vehicle by your local auto parts store. Just disconnect the battery after a full charge to test with a digital analyzer.

- Fully charge battery and have it tested.
- Put an analog voltmeter on your vehicle while running and check voltage and for wild needle fluctuation.
- If you see an issue, you can remove your alternator and have it checked.

i forgot to add that the bmw nav bm54 amp is faulty as it only plays through the left channel and when i have enquired about a fix for it i have been told theres lots of faults caused by the bm54 amp such as fliker screens.

ill have a try,
ive just changed the alternator on my o7 3.6 diesel rr sport because it kept giving me a thc or some fault that meant inactive suspension and limp home mode, changed alternator and not a prob since.
do you think that a battery or alt will do this little minor thing to different radios.
Thanks
