x5 south african spec

hi there guys and gals, i am from johannesburg south africa , i drive an 04 3.0i RHD x5, i have a few questions for the experts, thanx in advance

1) is the fuel filter location the same for the RHD and LHD VERSION?
2) I was driving today and my ob computer gave me a Transmission Failsafe warning, it is not a transmission problem as far as i can tell, my mechanic says he replaced the fuel filter, it was fine when i collected the car, after 15 min of driving she had absolutely no life, i press the pedal flat and the revs jump and she moves a bit, then she sort of wants to stall, it is as if there is no fuel coming through, could it be a faulty filter or hoses incorrectly connected, or reversed flow direction, or could it be much worse

please help as the dealers here in S.A even independent agents charge more than what it costs for a heartransplant, than you again,

Getting misfires due to a lack of fuel definitely causes the trans fail safe mode, I got it once for the same reason. The best you can do is to remove the panel under the vehicle and have a look to the filter. If it was fitted in the wrong sense, it will be very obvious. Check also that he put back the vaccum line coming to the filter (you might have 3 hoses connected to the filter)
If all is correct near the filter, just check that your mechanic didn't remove the fuel pump fuse or disconnected it as he had to releise the fuel pressure to replace the filter.

Sounds like the same problem I just had. For me it was an issue with my vacuum system (hose and loose gasket). In your case, it could be that there is an issue with the hose.
