How much coolant do I need when replacing the thermostat?

Im going to replace my thermostat and most likely the water pump. Im going to drain and replace the coolant from the radiator do I need need to drain from the engine block as well? Seen some DYI on this but not sure if I need to drain the coolant from one method to the other. Also where do you guys buy your coolant and how much do I need for this job?

Thanks

I buy at the dealer. Get two gallons, and get two gallons of distilled water. That will make 4 gallons. Even though 2 gallons will probably be enough for you.
