Hidden Switch
There is a switch next to the drivers side wall next to the accelerator. A small black toggle switch in the carpet with nothing written on it or around it. Any idea what this is for? ![]()

Could be an aftermarket accessory that the PO had installed on the truck. Maybe a hidden radar detector, or auxilliary lights.

If you can't find mention of it in the owners manual...then 99% chance that it is something a PO installed.
Also, if you can't find "any mention of it" and you can't figure out what it is plus...having the advantage of actually being able to physically see it...you'd have a better chance of us helping to help you better if you TOOK A PICTURE and uploaded it with your question. A pic speaks a thousand words. ![]() ![]()

+1 to the self-destruct theory :p.
Is there any aftermarket stuff (lights/audio) gear you could think of in your X?

![]() nothing aftermarket in the truck but I am wondering if that may have been connected to an aftermarket amp for power since you suggested audio. I see no connections in the front under the hood but the connections may be direct from the battery. I do see that there are connections for a stock sub which is not there and possibly removed by previous owner. This ones going to be a little mystery till I can figure out where this switch is connecting to. Everything is stock but I may have to open up the trunk and get to the battery to see if there are any connections directly hooked up there. I don't see any other logical reason for it. Any suggestions on where I should begin to look?

Could be a manual kill switch. Switch it on and try to start the car. If the X just cranks over without starting then you've found it's purpose.
I had installed a kill switch on my 84' and 86' Mustang SVO back in the day. Talk about an easy car to steal . . . |

Have you removed the panel that the switch is attached to, yet? It could give you a hint as to which direction to head to look for what it was attached to (engine or trunk area).
It looks like the switch is attached to panel #7 (see diagram below)...and that panel is secured with hardware (#8) which you can also see in the diagram below for an indication of what it looks like...and how the panel is fitted to the tranny tunnel/center console: ![]()
