Rent an autorepair shop bay in WA state for $35 an hour?
Has anyone been to this place http://selfservegarage.com/? It's in Kent, WA. For $35 an hour to rent a bay with a lift seems reasonable to me for DIY investigations of issues. You can rent a Bay for an Oil Change – $10 (You must complete the oil change in 30 minutes or less. Any oil change lasting more than 30 minutes will be charged the hourly bay rental rate).
I paid $60 to an indie for diagnosis of whining noise from underneath the car and was determined to be from transfer case. He recommends to replace entire box at $4k (Parts +Labour). But I would have wanted to DIY on a lift to zero in exactly where in drive train the noise is coming from and DIY. I changed the transfer box oil myself but noise persists. The drained oil had no metal shavings but was very dirty. Now it appears to me that replacing the entire transfer case is akin to fixing a flat tire by replacing with a new tire + rims :-)
